Earlier this week, the publisher Midwest Games and indie studio Moth Atlas released a new update for Tombwater, the 2D Wild West Soulslike action‑RPG. The patch adds a highly requested feature that lets players switch classes and re‑allocate base stats without starting a new game, a change that many fans had been waiting for.
To respec, players head to the saloon in Vauxhall Mining Camp, where they trade a whiskey bottle with Drinks Johnson. From there they can choose any of the seven classes – Soldier, Gunslinger, Occultist, Tinkerer, Spellblade, Drifter or Nameless – and redistribute HP, MP and stamina. Equipment stays tied to the original class, but the new flexibility allows experimentation with different builds and combat styles.
Alongside the respec system, the update introduces the Lanternkeeper, a tough new boss in the North Graveyard’s Casket Workshop. Players must navigate the workshop, light ten candles with a Wraith Shot, and face the Lanternkeeper. Defeating him rewards the Ghostlamp Blade, a weapon that applies both burn and cold status effects.
The patch also expands language support. Tombwater is now available in Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish, in addition to the original English. To celebrate, the game is on sale for €14,99 – a 40 % discount on its usual €24,99 price – during the Steam Scream Fest until 2 November.
Available on Windows via Steam, Tombwater’s latest update gives veteran players fresh challenges and new players an easier entry point. A new class system, a formidable boss and wider language options should keep the game relevant for months to come.
